This museum has more than 8000 archaeological pieces corresponding to all periods of the aboriginal Ecuador history, it is considered the most complete Museum of the city of Cuenca and the region.

The Museum of Aboriginal Cultures, specialized in Ecuadorian Archeology, founded by the Cordero López family, is part of the Cordero Cultural Center. Since its opening in 1992, its objective is to work in the teaching, assessment, maintenance and protection of the Cultural Heritage of Ecuadorians. It promotes the cultural development of the southern region of the country, research and cultural activities. It has  Museums and Heritage experts that develop educational mediation strategies for different audiences, which allow the visitor to explore our ancestors’ customs and beliefs, actively participating. The Museum operates in an 18th century house located in the Heritage Center of Cuenca. It offers various cultural events, courses, conferences, library services and the documentary collection that preserves data, images and documents unique to the history of Cuenca and Ecuador, as well as art, history, geography and literature books. The permanent exhibition of the Museum is conceived as an encounter with fifteen fundamental moments of Ecuadorian archeology. Its teaching has a geographical and thematic arrangement of original peoples of all Ecuador’s objects. Along the way you can see the incredible skill and knowledge with which these people worked different materials such as stone, ceramics, shell, bone, metals, and textiles.
