Community Tourist Center in Napo

Under the leadership of Kichwas women, Sinchi Warmi - Center Community Tourism develops tourism activities in which 12 women and three men of this community, strive to introduce environmentally friendly practices, applying in your project appropriate sustainability guidelines.

This Center is located in Misahualli Parish, Tena Canton, province of Napo and is a project that stands out for reducing the electric power consumption, developing an impeccable tourist  operation that offers different services and experiences, demonstrating the visitor corporate social responsibility, together with effective socio-cultural and environmental management, that supports this community.

It should be noted that in the province of Napo there are only five communities that meet the basic requirements to offer tourist  services and "Sinchi Warmi". This is the third Community Center that received the accreditation from the Ministry of Tourism. Additionally the community center was awarded the quality label "Q" of the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador. Awarded by the Napo provincial government.

How to get to Sinchi Warmi Community Center?

  • You can take public transport from Quito to Tena, a journey that takes 5 hours. From Tena to Misahualli by bus it only takes 30 minutes. From Downtown Misahualli to Sinchi Warmi is 5 minutes by taxi.

Betty Chimbo, project manager, states that at the beginning it was very hard, because all the material for the construction of the cabins had to be loaded. “We are 100% project owners, the community assumes the total administration” says Chimbo.

Their cabins have a capacity to house 25 people, who can develop various activities to share with visitors, such as observing the elaboration of handicrafts, knowing the museum, admire ancestral dances, learn how to make chocolate, enjoy from the splendid view that offers its viewpoint or walk along a path that preserves the extraordinary flora and fauna of this Amazon region.

Additionally, the gastronomy of the area constitutes another pretext for not miss this destination. The skillful hands of the Kichwas women prepare chicken and fish maitos, exquisite salads, delicious sweets and refreshing wuayusa, setting up a menu that strengthens the rescue of the traditional Kichwa food.

Among its natural attractions are two natural pools, where the visitor can practice artisanal fishing and cool off with a good dip.

Sinchi warmi meaning: In the Kichwa language "Sinchi Warmi" means strong woman, nothing more successful, because this project that started in the 2009, reflects the effort and desire of a visionary group of women who decided to get involved in the tourist activity building cabins and committing to preserve the environment around them.
