Muisne Tourism

Muisne is a tourist town in the province of Esmeraldas, it is known as an Emerald Garden for its diversity of beaches, mangroves, forests and landscapes.

The canton Muisne is located an hour and a half away south of the provincial capital, Esmeraldas. It has important natural resources such as the "Manglar Wildlife Refuge", within this habitat there is a large amount of fauna that serves as sustenance for the most of its inhabitants and is also part of its beautiful landscape.

Its people live from artisanal fishing and obtaining crabs and jaibas. In the indigenous language Muisne means abundance. This qualifier is not away from the reality of this canton located south of Esmeraldas.

Muisne is a peaceful place. The main transport are the "ecological taxis”, bicycles that are rented to move towards the beach.

It is a pedestrian city and also  allows the use of cars, its people are very hospitable.

People are transported in colorful and comfortable boats. It also has a ferry that transports cars and merchandise to the island.

  • To the south - the Pedernales Canton in the Province of Manabí
  • To the east - Quininde Canton

Production of the Muisne Canton

Fishing, shellfish collection and agriculture, the economy of this canton is very poor. Basic services and control by the Police, is very scarce.

Biodiversity of the Muisne Canton

  • It is characterized by its diversity of beaches, mangroves, forests and its landscapes, it is precisely the development approach of this place.
  • It offers a long stretch of quiet beaches, surrounded by palm trees and cordial people who live from shrimp fishing, banana farming and small-scale tourism It is famous for the preparation of encocado, a typical dish of the area.
  • Muisne is also known as the "Emerald Garden", with 7 km of beaches, you can see the beautiful palm trees full of red crabs that produce the optical illusion that the beach is moving.

Canton Muisne Religious Festival

  • July 16: Festivity of the Virgin of Carmen. Official patron of the town is Alfredo Pérez Guerrero.

This heavenly place has a phenomenal beach and sun, where people from place celebrates with some typical music, one of its customs is choose the queen, among the little populated existing.

Typical Meals of the Muisne Canton

  • Rice with shrimp: It is prepared with rice cooked in the broth of the shrimp, then the rice is mixed with the shrimp and fried spices such as fried onion, pepper, tomato, parsley, cumin, achiote and white wine.  It is served with avocados, onion tanning, tomato, and chili pepper. It can also be served with fried ripe plantains or patacones.
  • Shrimp Ceviche: Prepared with boiled shrimp, lemon juice, sour orange juice, mustard, ketchup, coriander, pepper, onion. It is accompanied with plantain chips or and popocorn.
  • Encocado: The base of the popularly known encocado, is coconut, its juice and crust. It can be made from fish, shrimp, lobster, etc.
  • Other typical foods: Muisneño baking, tapas, encocado from blue crab, corviche and muchín is a preparation of cassava or plantain with pieces of cheese, wrapped in bijao sheet.
