Mindo - Nambillo protective forest

Mindo is part of the 20 thousand hectares (47,444 acres) of nature protected reserve, called Mindo-Nambillo Protective Forest. The purpose of this biological reserve is the conservation of wild biodiversity.

What should you know?

  • The Protective forest of Mindo flora and fauna: So far more than 550 species of birds have been registered in the area, and therefore, Mindo has earned a reputation for being one of the best points for bird watching throughout South America. However in that list there are 32 endangered bird species which are endemic..
  • It is one of the sources that bombard the Mindo area with more than 470 species of birds.
  • You can rent a bike for around $ 5 per day at the city or in one of the many hostels in the area and go for extraordinary nature trails or reach rivers and fresh water waterfalls.
  • You can also do tubing, canopy and admire orchids.

  • The road that leads to the gardens of Mindo also enters the Nambillo reserve and there are some senederos that have not been explored, and that go from the Cascada area to Mindo Gardens.
  • Another excellent area in the vicinity is the Rio Valley Belt, which can only be accessed from the town of Mindo.
  • This area is not part of the Nambillo Reserve but has some areas of forest that offer very good opportunities for the observation of birds.
