Be a responsible tourist and feel the magic of Galapagos

Tourism in Galapagos, live the best sustainable tourism in Latin America.

First protected area of Ecuador

Enjoy a rest in the middle of nature, it is priceless. Being in an enchanted place like the Galapagos Islands allowed me to meditate on the importance of respecting nature while doing tourism. The life of men and the environment, harmoniously is possible.

The balance of sustainable development is respect. Thus, the Galapagos Islands were declared as the first protected area of Ecuador , in 1959 . The objective is to preserve the impressive " living laboratory " that houses more than 2000 endemic species, which must be taken care of with a treasure.

The isolation of this natural jewel lets us look closely at pristine ecosystems on 233 islands, islets and rocks born from volcanoes. Walking in their places is to imagine and see millions of years of evolution caused by the convergence of ocean currents. Thus, we must appropriate this natural destiny with respect.

I propose a challenge: to be a responsible tourist, following the practical advice to live an unforgettable trip.

Find out about the destination

Galapagos is not just any beach, before traveling, find out and remember that you will visit a natural destination, where learning and preserving its biodiversity and endemism are its main attraction.

Special rules such as the management and monitoring of tourist sites, control of entry of invasive species, migration and other measures were implemented to conserve it. Galapagos is a world acclaimed site and is considered the Best Sustainable Destination of the Americas for its actions in favor of sustainability.

Support the local economy

Do not come back empty-handed, purchase souvenirs made by local artisans, who manufacture them with recycled material. Do not buy products made with parts of nature, so you help take care of the environment.

Also, enjoy gastronomy with local products. Taste the Galapagos lobster or the shrimp (Chinese slipper), only in season. Another option is the Galapagos coffee that has a designation of origin and is a high quality product produced by local farmers.

Join the environmental initiatives!

If you like to take care of the planet and be at the forefront, take a cloth bag and a returnable container to drink water on your trip, thus contributing to the care of the islands. An ordinance regulates the use of disposable plastics. There are also community initiatives that urge the responsible use of plastics such as the Insular Front of the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

Also do not forget to separate the waste properly, consume the necessary amount of water and energy during your stay, and do not litter in the visiting sites. Small actions greatly influence the islands, which has 95% of its species in good condition.

Respect nature

Your best memories will be the impressive moments lived. Remember not to subtract sand, volcanic stone, corals or any other natural element. Admire the Galapagos fauna closely and explore paradisiacal places with volcanic landscapes. We want the enchanted islands to continue shining to generate repairing experiences.

Follow the special recommendations provided by the Galapagos National Park. Live the trip of your dreams and remember to keep 2 meters away in relation to the species and not feed them. Likewise, hire the services of an accredited specialized guide and acquire regulated tourist services.

Caring for this natural heritage is everyone's job, let's enjoy the natural areas, admire its wonders and fall in love with Ecuador. Galapagos is unique and shines with its splendor. Be part of the change and join in taking care of this natural paradise, being a responsible tourist.
